Jeans were first created in Genoa, Italy in 1864 because of this naval power. Jeans was all-purpose trousers for its sailors and could be worn wet or dry and was inexpensive to make.
Jeans were developed in America around 1872 by Levi Strauss. Initially blue jeans were trousers worn by workers and the only style available was as an overall. And looking back we know that the first people to wear jeans worked as farmers, laborers, miners and cowboys and the only design available was overalls for working jeans.
Today jeans are very fashionable, not only in America but all over the world.
Who would have thought back in 1864 that jeans/denim would be an important staple in everyones wardrobe and that it would be worn either as casual wear or dressed up as evening wear. Jeans are worn and seen in all walks of life.
Today millions of people wear jeans, and denim is more than a cotton fabric and remains eternally young, because it inspires designers, teenagers, movie starts, reporters and millions of people. Denim jeans are now woven with lycra and have more give to form to the body. Jeans are available in a variety of styles, from tight to loose fit and sold pre-washed or shrink to fit or stretch. Denim has become a symbol of the American way of life.
