Hair is the pride and joy of just about every woman, young and not so young. A head full of luscious locks can lift your spirits and maybe even catch the eye of that special someone. hair 6

After a long while with the same hair style and color, month after month, you might become bored with your “do”. Happily, you can liven up any hairstyle without the hassle of a full dye job. By highlighting hair, you can have a fresh new look that looks natural and just may garner you some new looks from the men. Highlighting hair is a good choice for any age, but has a special bonus for older ladies – highlighting tends to make you look younger!

hair 4I am sure you would like to know the definition of highlighting hair,by definition, highlights lighten and brighten your hair. Lowlights, by contrast, darken and deepen hair color. Many salons are using multi-tonal color, not limiting their palette to a single color when highlighting or lowlighting. Blending colors provides a more natural look.

There are two ways of highlighting hair:

  • First, you can highlight very small strands of hair. This creates a subtle change. Thin, small highlights look natural, as though you’ve just vacationed in Hawaii, or some exotic island.
  • Another way of highlighting your hair is to go for the modern and sleek chunky style. These highlights are thick, large portions of hair that have been bravely and boldly highlighted. This type of highlighting makes a fashion statement that isn’thair 1 soon forgotten.

Whichever style you choose, you want it to look professional. A messy job will give you spotted or streaky hair, or both, which can be less than desirable. To prevent this, I personally suggest you go to a proffesional salon its worth the expense because it will cost you more to get it fix if you mess up by doing it yourself.

hair 2In the salon, your hairdresser will discuss the color and the method of your hair service. Most salons today use foil to do your highlighting. You should never go more than 3 shades lighter than the rest of your hair color. The object of highlighting is to give you a sun-kissed look and to bring depth and light in your overall color. You must be patient because it does take at least 45 minutes to 60 minutes. When you time is up the hair dresseer will shampoo your hair and condition it if need be and will also ask you if you wish them to style your hair for you. And voila you have a new look. It will feel great.

Home service :You can also do your own highlighting, if you are brave and confidental that you can do the job yourself be assured that manufacturers of highlighting hair kits have created in home application tools just for you! The first is the dye net. This is similar to a plastic shower cap, except that it has holes in it. A small hook, similar to a crochet hook, is used to gently reach through the holes, and pull the hair out. If you want the natural look, then just pull through small strands of hair. For the bold and sassy look, grab generous chunks of hair.

Once you’ve selected and pulled through all the hair you want to highlight, you’re ready to bleach. When handling these highlighting hair chemicals, always wear gloves and goggles, for splash back protection. Drape an old towel around your neck and shoulders to protect your skin. Mix the chemicals as directed on the box. Included in your highlighting hair kit is a small comb. Dip this into the dye solution, and run it evenly through your hair. Be generous with the application, saturating each strand or chunk to ensure even coverage.

hair 3The highlighting hair kit gives you instructions on how long to leave the solution in your hair. Have a watch or timer handy and don’t leave it in too long. Don’t go traipsing around the house while waiting or you may find bleached spots on your carpeting! When the time is up, just rinse your hair out. Follow up with the conditioner, drying and styling, and you’ve got beautiful highlights and a brand new look.
