What is Rosacea?
One evening while I was having a glass of wine with some friends they asked me if I was okay or if I had been in the sun because my face was bright red. I looked into my purse mirror and low and behold my face was indeed red as a beet and yet I could not figure out what was causing this awful flushing. I looked into one of my skin books and discovered that I have Rosacea.
Rosacea is a common skin disorder and it affects an estimated 14 million Americans. It usually occurs in adults between the ages of 30 and up and mostly with lighter skin, hair and eyes. But I soon discovered that it does affect children and people of any skin color. Because I am olive skinned and yet I have rosacea.
By the way Rosacea is pronounced (rose-AY-sha). It is definitely a chronic shin condition that worsens over time. Its primary symptom is redness of the face, neck and chest. It will look as though you are blushing, usually in the center of the face and progresses into persistent redness in your face. The redness may appear on the neck and chest as well. It also can be accompanied by pimples, puss, and visible blood vessels on the face.
Typically rosacea affects more women then men. Women usually have an occurance during or before menopause. Men develop rosacea more severely than women with a condition called Rhinophyma which is a condition where the nose thickens and enlarges becoming discolored taking on a red and sometimes a purplish appearance.
Rosacea also affects the eyes in some cases causing eye problems such as redness, itching, burning, dryness, excessive tearing, ligh sensitivity and blurred vision. One can feel as though there in sand in your eyes, a very uncomfortable feeling.

Doctors still don’t know the exact cause of rosacea, or even if it can be passed on through families. Although there is no cure, rosacea can be treated and controlled. If you go to a dermatologist they will start you with a topical antibiotic that should be applied directly to the problem areas. The most popular antibiotics used is tetracycline, minocycline, erythromycin or doxicyline, but unfortunately this regime only clears up pimples and does little to improve the flushing or redness of your skin.
I personally recommend and encourage life changes to help control rosacea. The following are changes to help eliminate the triggers that cause rosacea to become aggravated and flare up.
- Heat (soaking in hot baths and spas)
- Stenuous exercise
- Sunlight (sun bathing)
- Wind
- Cold temperature
- Spicy food
- Stress
- Alcohol (red wine)
- Menopause
- Long term use of steroids ont the face
If you have rosacea you will probably also have sensitive, reactive skin. You have o be careful when trying out new products as you will have a tendancy to react badly to many ingredients such as fragrance, glycolic, Retin-A, strong cleaners, retinols and anti-aging treatments.
You may want to try wearing a sunscreen daily, using a mild cleanser, getting intense pulsed-light therapy, photo-facials. I recommend that you find an experienced medical professional to perform your treatments.
There are various creams and facial products on the market today…the product that I learned first hand that helps keep my rosacea under control is products with anything made from roses (oil, water, cream) it has a calming, soothing effect on my skin and I can see the difference by the next day, this works for me but be careful and read the ingredients of the products you are using amking sure that they have a skin calming effect.
Ear Candling

“After one ear candling session my mother can hear me now, hard to believe”,one of my clients remarks.
The definition of ear candling is: a method that proponents say removes ear wax and “toxins” from a person’s ear. Also called ear coning. It involves placing a hollow candle in the ear canal and lighting it; in most cases, the rising hot air pulls out the toxins and wax.
Ear candling is a simple, effective method for removing ear wax build-up, fungus and impaction from within the ear canal. But first ask yourself do you have any of the following conditions:
- Headaches
- Ear injection
- TMJ Dysfunction
- Excessive wax
- Ringing in the ears
- Plugged ears
- Hearing challenges
- Inner ear pressure
- Migraines
- Chronic Sinusitis
- Imbalances
- Ear aches and pain

If you do, then you would definitely benefit from ear candling. Ear candling is a natural way to clean out accumulated wax, and white flaky fungus from the ears. The accumulations withdrawn from your ears may be many months or even several years old .
The candles are custom designed from natural fibers, hollow and tapered to precise specifications. Ear candling does not hurt and it is painless, harmless and totally relaxing experience. If it was not for the intermittent crackling and hissing sounds, due to the burning of the wax and fungus being drawn up the chimney of the candle, you would never know that anything was happening in your ear.
This is what you should expect during your session: It takes 2 candles that are hollow to create this miracle. Each ear takes 15 minutes, a total of 30 minutes and its surprising how much better you can hear. And the stuff that comes out of each ear is unbelievable, you’ve got to do it to see it for yourself.
The procedure is as follows:You lie on your side with your body in a straight alignment and try not to move around. Your therapist will use a special conical candle which has small tapered ends which she inserts into a protective fire proof plate, and the tip of the candle is placed at the opening of your ear canal, the candle is lit.the flame is stopped and the candle slowly begins to burn down. The ear candle, by its shape, designed length, draws ear wax and fungus deposits from deep inside your ear canal. As the ear candling session progresses, extracted ear wax and fungus will be burned off, but some of it will be collected in the bottom part of the candle. After the candle has been burnt down and then extinguished, the therapist will cut open the remaining candle and show you the former contents of your ear canal. Most people cannot believe what has been collected in their ears. You will certainly be amazed.
After your ear candling session, you may feel lightness in your head and the natural noise around you may seem to be much louder to you. This can be relieved by inserting cotton in each of your ears. You must not get water in your ears for 48-hours.
After your session with your therapist you will most likely notice improved hearing, because the wax blockage is no longer present. Each session will last about 30 minutes for both ears. It is recommended that you get your ears candled at least 2 to 3 times for a normal clean out, about a week to 10 days apart. However, some people may need up to 8 sessions over a six month period. Once your ears are clean, personal preference should determine how often you have your ears candled. Every one to two months would be practical.
Ear candling should not be done to people who have ear tubes, perforated ear drums or artificial ear drums or to children under 15 years old without a doctors consent. Make sure your therapist is qualified and that she uses beeswax candles for your treatment.
Walking for Exercise

Getting in shape should be important to everyone for so many reasons. Some of the reasons are really simple:
- Your good health
- Healthy muscle tone
- Feeling of well-being
- Controlling stress
- Avoiding diseases
- Avoiding illnesses
For many people the driving force behind their active lifestyle is to maintain good health. They want to keep their heart and body healthy and to do that they watch what they eat and engage in regular exercises. You don’t need to spend a great deal of money on expensive equipments to keep your body moving. Although a gym membership is wonderful if you have the financial means and time to do that, walking for exercise will give you great results too.

We’re inundated with so many different weight loss formulas and programs in our lives today, that it can be challenging trying to decide on which approach is the best one, everyone you talk to tells you a different story. People who have lost weight and kept it off for a number of years will tell you that it’s more about changing your views on food and exercise than it is about a short term solution. We all should know by now the short term solutions don’t work because in the end they get us frustrated. Walking for exercise is something that almost everyone can work into their lifestyle and keep up forever and also get to enjoy.
Living in a neighborhood with a park or trails is a plus when it comes to a daily walk. Many people also include their four-legged friend when they are walking for exercise. This is a great way for both you and the dog to keep in shape. It’s also a nice idea if you are new to the neighborhood and are uncomfortable about walking alone.
The weather can put a damper on your daily work-out. If you’ve grown accustomed to doing your walking for exercise outside, consider purchasing a treadmill for the days you need to stay inside because of the weather. You don’t need an expensive model although it’s advised you do choose one that is motorized, because the manual style of treadmill does work but it requires a great deal more exertion on the part of the walker.
Music goes hand in hand with getting up and being active. If you’ve got an iPod you can take that along when you go walking for exercise. You should choose upbeat songs that will help you keep your pace up. A slow song at the beginning and the end of the work-out will help ensure that you get a warm-up and a cool down in. But if you are at all like me, I prefer listening to nature and also being able to hear is someone is coming up on me from the rear. I want to smell the earth, plants, trees and also hear the natural sounds of the day as I walk and breathe during me walking for exercise session.
As time goes by think about increasing the time you spend active each day. If you began with ten minutes of walking time three times a week, slowly work that up to thirty minutes four times a week and finally up to 1 hours each time. Every extra step you take when you are walking for exercise is going to help you get and stay in shape. You may also want to consider carrying weights in each hand to exercise your arms as you swing your arms with your natural stride. Always remember to hold you head up and don’t look down as you walk, breathe, relax your shoulders and smile as you go through you walking for exercise moment. Do not walk on your toes, land on your heel and roll your foot forward to push off this will prevent you from getting calf and shin problems which can be painful.
You may want to consider power walking if you get bored with your walking for exercise and need to upgrade your program.
Walking for exercise is therapeutic to most everyone I have talked to who are Walking for Exercise and they are never bored.

Young and older men, are often left pondering how to attract women of quality. What they don’t realize is that women are thinking that they don’t know how to attract men, and it is a never ending cycle of both sexes wanting to hook up with the other, but not knowing how to go about it.

Lots of men may be wondering how anyone ever gets together with the opposite sex. For the most part, it is so much easier to meet people than they think. It’s almost a matter that some men are making it way too hard.
If you want to know how to attract women, you simple have to look in the mirror and ask yourself what you see.
